This is a trio of romances published by Jennifer Blake in the 70s and 80s - a period where the *forced seduction* trope was quite common. Times have changed, and like everything else, romances have become more politically correct. Nothing wrong with that, and I completely understand how some readers are going to react to events in this set, but on the other hand there are readers who are fans of Ms. Blake and/or fans of the old skool romances. There is no right or wrong in this, it's merely a matter of personal taste, and why reader reviews can be so helpful. I personally don't care for the majority of the romances being published today, since most of them are just sexed up wall paper romances. Ms. Blake does a nice job of building a good story and filling it with historical details, and that's what I prefer in a romance - it all boils down to personal preference. YMMV.That said, this boxed set contains Surrender in Moonlight, with a heroine getting mixed up with a blockade runner (see book page for reviews). Next up is The Notorious Angel, and likely the most controversial of the three, but if you can get past the rape scene, it is a very worthwhile story centered in Nicaragua in the 1850s. Last up is Golden Fancy, and a bit different since events in this story are centered in Denver and Cripple Creek Colorado.
I'd already had copies of all three obtained via library sales and/or swap sites, but was happy to get keeper copies on the Kindle. This set is nicely packaged, with navigation buttons to move between books and the author's notes (always appreciated). I did notice some odd conversation errors (missing commas and/or periods), which aren't terribly distracting. That said, I did reread the latter half of Golden Fancy and found a couple glaring ones, and was grateful to still have my original copy to refer to, or I'd never have known what word was supposed to have been there.
"Nathan man-rained" [maintained]
"I told you, I don't give up what is [mine] easily."
"then rolled down her sleeves, fastening the de-mute, lace-edged cuffs." [demure]
Those quibbles aside, I think this set is a good value for the right reader and thank you Ms. Blake for working so hard to get all of your books back in print.

Love and Adventure Collection Volume 2 Love and Adventure Boxed Sets edition by Jennifer Blake Romance eBooks Reviews
The author did a fantastic job of recreating what life was like back then but I had a problem with the heroine actually choosing the man who raped her as her life partner, falling in love with him. I know those things happen(ed) but I would have preferred the "lady" to ultimately fall in love with and choose a partner who had better character and love for her. THAT (to me) would have been a great plot twist. Just my opinion.
I without a doubt ENJOYED this book but have to admit there was quite a bit of not only history and explanation of interiors+++ that I only skimmed over to get to the important points
First let me say that, I downloaded this trilogy for free - however I have now completed the first book and wouldn't hesitate to recommend as a purchase to anyone looking for historical romance with tingly steamy sex scenes. The characters were captivating and stay with you after the book is complete. Who wouldn't want to be a blockade runner - with danger, adventure and love on the high seas. The author did a wonderful job in describing historical events that surrounded life during the civil war. Have only read the 1st book in the 3 series but am looking forward to starting the 2nd today! Don't hesitate if you are a historical romance fan - these are worth delving into.
All three books follow the same general plot a heroine is put in dangerous, unfavorable situations and has to survive in difficult circumstances.
I liked the stories. They are well written and really well researched. No rosy view of the past here. War is war and people die, some are jailed. The mining small town is dirty, violent and unsafe. Sickness, starvation and rape are an everyday possibility. It's a welcome change from all those authors who try to make us believe that living in en 1870's or 80's was oh so fun and pure. It was not. Babies died young. Baths were a once a week or month occasion. The streets smelled etc.
The three heroines are strong and tenacious. The three heros are, for my taste, a bit cold. I did not feel their passion until the very last pages.
I did not like at all the rape scenes in books two and three which is the reason why I took out two stars. I agree that it happened frequently in those days (and in ours too) and that the men's definition of honor did not stretch to protect women believed to be fallen. Still, the book is meant to be read today by modern readers. I found these scenes disturbing and offensive. Rape is never right, in any time period. The fact that the two heroines will eventually fall in love with the very same men who did not listen and took advantage makes it worse.
If you can somehow forget the conditions under which the two heros connect, these are fine romances.
I really don't like doing reviews, but I felt there were some points that needed clarification regarding any rape scenes in these books. I liked all three of the books, even though books two and three contained rape. I didn't feel that the sex scenes were meant to be titillating, just that they were meant to tell the story. The sex scenes were far less descriptive than those in most of the books I choose to read. Rape was as much a part of real life in the 1800's as it is today. It is especially confusing for a woman when it is acquaintance rape or date rape, because she may have been sexually attracted to him before force was introduced. As unfair as it is, this type of thing causes severe emotional upheaval in reality, and I think the author did a good job of showing just how unfair life was during that time period. I only wish these stories had been related. As far as I could tell, they were stand alone books.
